Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) have been part of the automotive industry since the 1970s with the introduction of Anti-Lock Braking Systems (ABS). We saw new systems starting to show up on windshields around 2015, and today, the industry has developed vehicles with fully autonomous features. These new systems require precise measurements from multiple sensors and systems mounted around the vehicle.

In 2018, the University of Montreal won the ACM A.M. Turing Award for neural networks, and that changed the direction of how safety systems were to function in a vehicle. With Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) well on its way through development, it marked a change for the automotive industry as a whole. Our industry was hit with copious technical and regulatory information that was all now a requirement for the new safety systems.
